The Angels are in serious trouble today as they head to the Big Apple and a weekend clash with the Yankees. They have Oakland closing in on them, they just got swept in Toronto and must try and regroup after a grueling 18 inning loss to the Jays Thursday.
Making matters worse for the Angels is that they send rookie Ervin Santana to the hill and the rookie is winless on the road with a 0-2 mark and a inflated ERA of 14.63! The discombobulated Washing Nationals take their road show to the sunny and muggy state of Florida and a duo with the Marlins. As mentioned in a previous article, I would suggest firing aging Frank Robinson and bringing in someone who care try and recharge the listless Washington club.
Houston will continue hosting the party for ex-Astro Carlos Beltran and last night they proved to be less then hospitable to their former teammate and the Mets. They have won 5 in a row and 11 of their last 12!
The NL West-leading San Diego Padres will try to shake off their recent struggles and create some space in the division race when they begin a three-game series with the visiting Cincinnati Reds.
The Padres saw their lead in the mediocre West shrink to two games after an 11-3 loss to league-leading St. Louis on Thursday, coupled with second-place Arizona's 6-0 win over the Chicago Cubs.
San Diego, which has lost nine of its last 10 games, is 18-32 since June 1, but has lost just one game off its division lead during that stretch.
The PGA is in Grand Blanc, Michigan for the Buick Open and Tiger played Thursday like he hadn’t picked up a club in years. After shooting 8 straight rounds in the 60’s the superstar shot a human like 1 under 71.
Most NFL training camps get in full swing this weekend and let’s keep our fingers crossed that there are no unsuspecting injuries and teams will be at full strength. The Denver Broncos have a slew of running backs in camp including former New York Giant Ron Dayne and controversial Ohio State defector Maurice Clarett.
NASCAR enjoys a well deserved week off, as the boys get ready for the “Brickyard in Indianapolis!

Typically the Pre-season is a time period for coaches to evaluate new players and to shake the rust off their veterans. A coaches main goal is to have their players ready when the games count. NFL Football Preseason betting holds tremendous value and you can find a legitimate edge if you follow the following few rules.
Some Coaches just love to win in the preseason and some could really care less on the outcome of the games final score. Research the coaches records in the preseason and also put weight on a first year coach coming into the league, he will want to prove he is a winner immediately.
Coaches dread playing on turf if they are not used to it, especially in preseason games. A lot of coaches will hold out his star players because a possible turf injury which can end a players season before it even starts.
Find out who is fighting who for the starting job. Sometimes teams have kickers that are battling out or quarterbacks that are trying to be number one. Also, check out teams that are weak on special teams, this is the hardest thing to fix and it can be disastrous if they do not get it right.
There is information waiting for you on preseason action, you just have to do your research. You must be a perfectionist and tackle every element of the game from A to Z. Bet with your head and be selective. Playing the whole board will have you paying your man week after week.

Sunday July 24th – 1:00 pm (TNT)/17:00 GMTThe ‘Race for the Chase’ continues at Pocono Raceway on Sunday, with Tony Stewart gunning for his fourth win in five starts. Stewart (13/2 to win again this week), who scored his first win in 10 months at Sonoma last month, has a win at Pocono already to his name (in 2003), to go along with two top-fives and eight top-10 finishes at the track. Even that record is not as hot as that of Series points leader Jimmie Johnson, who’ll be trying to secure his third Pocono win in the four most recent races, including a sweep last year. Johnson is 11/2 favorite to win this week, but this could be a good opportunity for his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon (9/1) to turn around what has been a poor season by his standards. The Hendrick stable, which also includes Brian Vickers (10/1), is Pocono’s all-time leading race team with 10 victories, and Gordon is the track’s all-time leading money winner with more than $2 million, and three Pocono wins overall. His record also shows he finishes in the top five 50 percent of the time. And, despite being born in California, it is Pennsylvania that boasts more Gordon fans than any other state, support which can give him the confidence and motivation to step up his performance this week.
Another driver to look out for this week is Carl Edwards (12/1), who looked anything but a novice when taking the checkered flag at Pocono back in June.

This day in sports history...
1993 - Boston Celtics star Reggie Lewis died after collapsing on a Brandeis University basketball court during practice.

You can bet on almost every aspect of a contest from who is going to win to who scores first, the overall combined score, what round a boxer will knock out his opponent, and even whether the coin toss will yield heads or tails. A very generic breakdown of online sports betting and online sports wagering: sports handicapping is a system of taking two or more competing teams/individuals and providing a "level playing field" on which gamblers can bet the outcome of the event. Sports handicapping can be expressed in the form of points or odds. Odds can be defined as the odds of a team winning a game, series, championship etc. Points are the amount of points a team is going to win the game by (not just win the game, but by how many).

This day in sports history...
1955 - Ted Allen made 72 ringers in a row at horseshoe pitching in Murray, Utah.

Playing the money-line is equivalent to picking a team (favorite or underdog) to win the game straight-up. For this bet, there is no spread. If the team you pick wins the game outright, you win your bet. If the team loses, you lose the bet. There is no juice or vig (although the odds you get have casino profit built in).I know what you're thinking - just pick the favorite each time and laugh all the way to the bank! Well, it's not that simple. If this bet paid even money, you would simply pick the favorites each week, win more than 50% of your bets, and retire young. That's why, of course, this bet doesn't pay even money. If you select a favorite to win straight up, you need to put down more than you can win. If you select an underdog, you need to put down less money than you can win. Let's look at a couple of examples:
Example 1: Miami Dolphins -3 over Minnesota VikingsFor this game, the sports book has set the Money Line at -180 for Miami and +150 for Minnesota. That means that if you want to bet Miami to win straight up, you would need to lay $180 to win $100. If you want to take Minnesota to win straight-up, you would lay $100 to win $150.
Example 2: Buffalo Bills +6.5 over Green Bay PackersFor the second game, the bookmaker has set the money at -300 for the Pack and +230 for Buffalo. The larger numbers reflect the larger spread. If you can pick a 6.5 point underdog to win straight-up, you would win $230 for a mere $100 bet.
