CFL Football Preview Week 16 The CFL goes a little later than usual this week as they celebrate Thanksgiving north of the border on Monday. Edmonton and Toronto get the festivities started, while B.C. and Winnipeg clash in Game 2 of the doubleheader. Kicking off the week on Friday night are Hamilton and Ottawa, while Montreal and Saskatchewan hook up on Saturday. Here's a closer look at those games: Friday, October 7Hamilton at Ottawa, 7:30 pm EDT The Ottawa Renegades need to turn their season around quickly if they hope to keep their flickering playoff hopes alive, and what better team to do that against than the CFL-worst Hamilton Tiger-Cats (3-10). Ottawa defeated Hamilton 28-12 as a 2-point road favorite way back in Week 7 before they hit their recent slide. The oddsmakers have pegged the Renegades to win again, opening them as a 3-point favorite. The Tiger-Cats may not be the pushovers they were earlier in the season after upsetting Edmonton 40-14 last week as an 8-point underdog. Ti-Cats running back Troy Davis - traded on Wednesday to the Edmonton Eskimos - had one of his best games of the season, rushing for 108 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win. The Renegades' losing streak grew to six last week after falling 29-18 at the hands of the Toronto Argonauts. The only real positive in that loss was that the Renegades' defense allowed less than 37 points for the first time since August. That defensive upgrade resulted in Ottawa posting their first under since their six-game losing streak began. Saturday, October 8Montreal at Saskatchewan, 7:00 pm EDT The Roughriders will be out to prove their last game with the Montreal Alouettes was a fluke loss when they clash Saturday night. The Als rolled over the Roughriders 42-13 as a 4.5-point favorite back in Week 7. That was before the Riders put Marcus Crandell in at QB and started tearing up their opponents. The oddsmakers expect the rematch to be much closer than the original matchup, opening the Als as a slim 1-point favorite. Montreal dropped Calgary 32-11 last week to move a game back of the Argos for top spot in the East. The Alouettes won that game without star running back Robert Edwards and could be missing the former 1st-round NFL draft pick again due to a lingering knee injury. Eric Lapointe should get the start again if Edwards can't go. The Roughriders have their own injury concerns at running back with Kenton Keith questionable due to a nagging hip injury. Keith sat out last week as the Riders ripped up the Lions 28-19 as a 7-point underdog. Marcus Crandell picked up the slack in that game with two touchdowns, while the defense and special teams also chipped in on the scoreboard. Monday, October 10 Edmonton at Toronto, 1:00 pm EDT The Eskimos and Argonauts face-off in the first Thanksgiving Day game on Monday afternoon. The Argos slipped past the Eskimos 22-18 as a 6.5-point underdog back in Week 9. Damon Allen was solid in that game, tossing three touchdown passes and no interceptions in the win. The oddsmakers expect a repeat performance on Monday, opening Toronto as a 2.5-point favorite. Edmonton is coming off an embarrassing 40-14 loss to the Tiger-Cats only one week after handing the Lions their first loss of the season. Ricky Ray had one of his worst games of the season, completing only 21-of-33 passes for 217 yards with no touchdown passes and a pair of costly interceptions. Which Eskimos team will show up this week? The squad that took down the Lions or the ragged bunch that was routed by Hamilton? Toronto got a gift from the CFL schedule-maker last week against the flailing Renegades. The Argos defeated Ottawa 29-18 as a 9.5-point favorite to maintain their hold onto first place in the East. BC at Winnipeg, 4:00 pm EDT In the later Turkey Day game, the B.C. Lions head into Winnipeg to try and snap their two-game losing streak. This is the first time these teams have clashed this season after the Lions posted two wins versus the Bombers last season. This game was kept off the board early in the week due to the questionable status of Lions' quarterback Dave Dickenson. Check back on game day for the current line. After opening the season with 11 straight wins the Lions have faltered recently to drop their last two games. Last week Dave Dickenson was knocked out with a concussion and the Lions' hopes went with him in a 28-19 loss to Saskatchewan. If Dickenson can't go this week the starting nod will go to Buck Pierce who has been effective when leading the Lions' offense during intermittent stretches this season. The Blue Bombers went back to their losing ways last week as they got thumped 42-23 by the Montreal Alouettes. The Blue Bombers' defense could be in luck with Dickenson possibly out, because they currently sit last in the CFL allowing 451 yards per game.
