Shaun Alexander rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries and Matt Hasselbeck threw for 281 yards and a pair of scores, as Seattle held off Atlanta, 21-18, at Qwest Field. Hasselbeck completed 20-of-31 passes while Darrell Jackson had eight catches for 131 yards for the Seahawks (1-1), who built a 21-0 halftime lead and held on. Atlanta's Michael Vick had 123 passing yards and a touchdown while adding 43 more on the ground, but injured his left hamstring during a 32-yard run late in the fourth quarter. The star quarterback came out for the team's final drive, but was again removed after being tackled for a loss on third down. Backup Matt Schaub's fourth-down pass for Roddy White was then knocked down by Andre Dyson with 1:35 left to play, and Seattle ran out the clock.

-->Vernon Wells went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a pair of runs scored, leading the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-5 victory over the New York Yankees in the finale of a three-game series at Rogers Centre. Eric Hinske drove in a pair of runs for Toronto and also knocked Yankee starter Jaret Wright out of the game when his broken bat hit the pitcher. The Blue Jays salvaged the finale of the three-game series and ended New York's six-game winning streak. The Yankees fell 1 1/2 games behind Cleveland in the AL wild card race as the Indians pounded Kansas City 11-0.
